After transferring to UNE in 1987, Shackelford put together staggering numbers in just two seasons in a UNE basketball uniform. He scored 1,262 career points, with an average of 20.4 points per game, while also contributing 287 assists and 256 steals. Shackelford shot 78.2 percent from the free throw line for his career and still holds the single-season record for three-point percentage, making 46.6 percent of his attempts during the 1988-89 season. He was a two-time all-NAIA District 5 selection and an all-state pick.
