DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Trailing 13-7 after one quarter, Emerson College outscored the University of New England women's basketball team 19-7 in the second to flip the scoreboard and lead the rest of the way for a 72-61 win Sunday (Nov. 23) in day-two action at the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
A day after a 57-48 triumph over Wesleyan University, the Nor'easters converted just 2 of 17 field goal attempts in the pivotal second frame. Conversely, the Lions made half (7 of 14) of their attempts from the field to forge a 26-20 lead heading into intermission.Â
UNE closed to within one (26-25) on the first of senior captain
Grace Boucher's trio of treys in the third quarter, but Emerson responded with nine consecutive points to seize control. Jessie Silk tallied 12 points in the period for the Lions.Â
The Nor'easters were unable to get any closer than seven in the fourth.
Silk led all players with 23 points on a tidy 7-for-11 performance from the floor. Claire English missed just one shot (7-8 FG, 4-4 FT) while posting a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kaylin O'Meara chipped in 13 points and seven boards.
Boucher finished one point shy of her career high with 13 points, which included dialing up four makes from beyond the arc. She also dished out four assists.
Ella Karavanic tallied 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting accuracy, and
Paige Meda scored 10.
Sydney Jenisch contributed nine points, three assists and three steals, and
Kaia Anderson scored eight and picked up a pair of steals. Jenisch landed a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Emerson (4-2) offset 31 turnovers by making 53.2 percent (25 of 47) of its field goal attempts and holding a commanding 45-28 advantage in the rebounding column.Â
The Nor'easters, who piled up 11 steals on the Lions' miscues, launched a season-high 30 three-point attempts but only converted six for 20 percent efficiency.
After playing back-to-back days, UNE (2-3) has just one off before heading to Worcester, Mass. for a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday at WPI.
