Statistics

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College of Maine led by as many as 17 early in the second half, and although the Nor'easters were able to climb back within six later in the game, the Monks finished off a 73-61 victory in Tuesday night's non-conference women's basketball action.

Sydney Jenisch led both sides with a career-high 23 points, connecting on 10 of her 17 attempts from the field and hitting 3-of-5 from deep. Faye Veilleux joined her in double figures with 10 points. Elisabeth Stapelfeld and Grace Ramsdell led with the Monks (2-2) with 17 apiece and Angelica Hurley, who pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, pitched in with 16 to bolster Saint Joseph's balanced scoring contingent.

Cold first-half shooting marked a slow start for the Nor'easters (2-1), who later erupted to score 25 points and shoot 75 percent from the field (9-of-12) in the third quarter. Jenisch's bucket with just over four minutes remaining in the third - two of her 10 third-quarter points - cut the Monks lead to 38-32, the smallest it had been since the opening minutes of the second quarter.

The two-time defending GNAC champions weathered UNE's 15-4 run and eventually hiked their lead back to 12 (45-33) by the 2:35 mark of the third with Ramsdell's trey. With UNE trailing 51-42 to start the fourth quarter, Jenisch nailed a 3-pointer on the opening possession to bring the Nor'easters back within six. Three straight scores by Saint Joseph's, including a Hurley triple, midway through the fourth once again had the Monks on top by double digits.

UNE is back in action on Friday, Nov. 22 when it begins the Cave Classic (hosted by Bridgewater State) by taking on Emerson in a neutral-site matchup at 7:30 p.m. The Nor'easters will take on either Bridgewater State or Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday.
