WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England out-scored Gordon College by a 19-2 margin in the 2nd quarter to go up 18 on the way to a 74-49 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) at Kanas Court.
After a back-and-forth opening frame, the Nor'easters (13-6, 8-3 CCC) forced the Fighting Scots into just 1-of-8 shooting and 10 turnovers in the period leading up to halftime.
Sydney Jenisch tallied all of her eight points in the 2nd to help the visitors to a 35-17 cushion, which featured scoring from 10 different players.
In all, a season-best 12 individuals scored for UNE, paced a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds from
Faye Veilleux, who also had three assists and three steals.
Jordyn Franzen chipped in with 11 points, and
Ashley Schmitt matched Jenisch's eight points.
Kaylee Beyor contributed six points and nine boards, helping the Nor'easters to a 45-33 edge on the glass.
UNE connected at a 45 percent clip from the field in the contest (29-for-64), and limited Gordon to 31 percent (16-of-52). The scoring gap in the paint was 30-12.
Ami Rivera was the only player in double digits with 12 points for the Scots (3-16, 2-8).
The Nor'easters return home to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
