BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Faye Veilleux made 12 of 15 field goal attempts on her way to a season-high 26 points as the University of New England women's basketball team rolled to a 67-39 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening (Jan. 31) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Winners of six of their last seven contests, the Nor'easters improved to 14-6 overall, 9-3 in conference play. Wentworth now stands at 4-14 and is winless in 11 CCC outings.
Veilleux's 26-point outing came in just 24 minutes of court time and was the second-highest scoring output of her career. She added seven rebounds (5 offensive), four assists and pair of steals.Â
UNE's
Jordyn Franzen tallied 11 of her 13 points prior to halftime and was the only other Nor'easter to reach double digits in the scoring column.
Juliana Tracey contributed seven points, seven boards, six assists and two steals, while
Rachael Rooney came off the bench to grab a career-best six rebounds for UNE, which dominated Wentworth on the glass by a 41-18 margin.
Gabby Amoddio played all 40 minutes and finished with 17 points to pace the Leopards. Tita Rana scored eight points and led her squad with five caroms.
Leading 21-14 after one quarter, UNE put the game out of reach by outscoring the visitors 20-8 in the second frame to lead 41-22 at halftime. Veilleux played a crucial role in the quarter, pouring in 10 points over the opening 3:07, including back-to-back conventional 3-point plays.Â
Wentworth would get no closer than 16 (43-27) the rest of the way.
Aside from their commanding advantage on the glass, the Nor'easters forced 25 turnovers and outscored Wentworth by a 38-10 margin in the paint.
UNE is back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. road game at Nichols College. The Nor'easters will be looking to avenge an 88-83 loss to the Bison on Jan. 6 in Biddeford.
