Statistics

BEVERLY, Mass. -- The University of New England women's basketball team went on the road and defeated Endicott College by a 63-55 spread in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday evening (Jan. 23) at MacDonald Gymnasium.

For the second consecutive season, the Nor'easters (12-6, 7-3 CCC) complete the series against the Gulls (10-7, 6-4), having already claimed a 22-point win back in November.

Faye Veilleux led the way for the visitors with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, to go with five rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Veilleux had 11 points at the half without missing an attempt. Kaylee Beyor and Jordyn Franzen went for 12 and 11 points, respectively, with a combined 19 following intermission. Franzen also collected nine rebounds, a team-high she shared with Juliana Tracey, who dished out six assists and scored all of her six points in the 1st quarter.

Sydney Jenisch and Aisling Harrington chipped in with seven and six points for UNE, which shot 44 percent from the field (24-of-55) and had a 30-16 scoring advantage in the paint. The Nor'easters held a 44-39 edge in rebounding and overcame 22 turnovers in the match.

Endicott was limited to 31 percent shooting in the contest (21-for-67). The hosts were guided by 14 points and 12 rebounds out of Sarah Dempsey. Taylor Bogdanski and Cora Nadeau registered 12 points apiece, while Libby Fleming also had a double-double of 10 points and 10 caroms.

After eight lead-changes during the initial stages of the game, the Nor'easters got points from five different players to close the 1st on an 11-4 run to move in front for good (20-14). The margin shifted between four and nine in the 2nd and ended with the same gap (35-29). The visitors connected at a 52 percent clip before the break, while holding EC to fractions below 30 percent.

Franzen and Beyor fueled more separation in the 3rd period as the cushion extended into double digits (52-40), accounting for a combined 13 points. Franzen had seven in-a-row for UNE to get the lead to 14 (50-36) for the first time.

The advantage peaked at 16 (58-42) in the 4th and was 60-46 with 6:26 remaining. Fleming and Nadeau -- who tallied all of Endicott's points in the frame -- pulled the Gulls back within seven (60-53) at the 3:15 mark. But despite UNE's struggle to the finish, the deficit was too large.

The Nor'easters head right back to the North Shore on Saturday to face Gordon College.
