MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Albertus Magnus College scored 22 unanswered points spanning the tail end of the 1st quarter and beginning of the 2nd in an 87-65 women's basketball result against the University of New England at Wesleyan University's Courtyard by Marriott Classic on Saturday night (Nov. 11) at Silloway Gymnasium.
The event will culminate on Sunday with predetermined matchups. The Nor'easters (1-1) will square off with the host Cardinals at 3 p.m.; Wesleyan coasted past Rosemont College earlier in the evening, 102-35.
Three players combined for 72 of the points for the Falcons (1-1), led by Jakara Murray-Leach with 25 and 10 rebounds. Caitlyn Scott and Diamond White had 24 and 23, respectively. The trio hit nine field goals apiece to help AMC shoot 47 percent in the match (31-of-66) and run out to 30 fast break points.
Juliana Tracey knocked down a game-high four triples on the way to 17 points for UNE, while
Kaylee Beyor went for 16 points and nine caroms.
Sydney Jenisch added 12 points.
Jordyn Franzen corralled nine defensive rebounds to help a 53-33 advantage on the glass, which included 23 offensive boards. The Nor'easters were hindered, though, by 26 turnovers and 32 percent (22-for-69) efficiency from the floor.
UNE sliced into the 39-20 halftime deficit in the 3rd quarter, getting as close as 11 (55-44), and eight straight had it down to 10 (65-55) in the 4th. But Albertus Magnus scored on its next five trips (five shots) to put it out of reach.
