UNE breezes past Lesley, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Mass. -- The University of New England had a season-best .468 hitting percentage and dropped in 18 service aces to defeat Lesley University by a 3-0 margin (25-6, 25-10, 25-5) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) in women's volleyball action at Minuteman High School.

After discarding of Husson University earlier in the day (3-0), the Nor'easters improve to 8-5 overall on the season with the win. The Lynx fall to 0-14.

Jillian Bender led the way with 11 kills and a .588 attack rate, which was supported by 24 assists out of Courtney McDermott. Kendall Gallaugher and Viktoria Pavlyuk combined for 13 kills and both hit at least .400 for the contest. Pavlyuk also had a team-high six digs, and Griffin Chaffin-Quiray picked up five more to go with the squad-best five aces.

UNE scored the first eight points of the match and operated at a .500 clip (15-2-26) in the 1st set. The eight in-a-row was the longest string of points until the Nor'easters notched the last 10 of the 3rd to seal the deal.

The Nor'easters return home to face Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference outing on Thursday (6 p.m.).
