LEXINGTON, Mass. -- The University of New England women's volleyball squad dialed up an astounding .706 attack percentage in the second set as part of the 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-8, 25-15) over Husson University in a neutral match hosted by Lesley University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7) at Minuteman High School.
It marked the second time the Nor'easters (7-5) beat the Eagles (4-11) this season.
UNE's top four individuals accounted for 27 kills and just two errors while each hitting at least .400 in the contest.
Viktoria Pavlyuk topped the team with 10 winners, and
Hannah Nowell went for eight on 11 swings for .727 efficiency.
Kailyn Reilly had a big game in three phases, going to five kills, a team-best six service aces, and four blocks (three solo).
Kassidy Bradshaw had four kills on five tries (.800) but also facilitated the others with 23 assists.
Addie Miller had a light day on the back line with a team-high five digs, and contributed four aces to UNE's total of 15.
After trailing 5-3 early in the 1st frame, it wasn't until five unanswered gave the Nor'easters the lead (16-12). The margin was only two (20-18), but a kill from Pavlyuk and ace by Bradshaw provided some breathing room to secure the set.
UNE was nearly unstoppable in the 2nd with 12 kills and no miscues in 17 attacks. The cushion was 17-3 through the surge.
Things were even during the initial stages of the 3rd, including 10 ties -- the last at 11-11 on an ace by
Ellijah Hanley. One of Reilly's blocks and another service winner from Hanley nudged UNE in front for good (13-11), and the Nor'easters finished with 12 of the final 16 points.
Janna Preskorn had seven kills to pace Husson.
