PLYMOUTH, N.H. –
Brady Colgan scored twice in the game's final five minutes to help the University of New England men's soccer team salvage a 4-4 tie after trailing Plymouth State University, 4-1, midway through the second half of Wednesday's non-conference matchup on Arold Field.
Â
UNE (3-5-3) began chipping away at the 4-1 deficit in the 68th minute when
Cole Osburn scored on a penalty kick, and the Nor'easters were within one Colgan struck in the 86th minute. It was less than three minutes later, in the 89th, when Colgan scored again to tie the game, 4-4.
Â
Colgan, with the first multi-goal game of his collegiate career, upped his season total to four goals.
Â
PSU (4-2-1) was on the board first, just 29 seconds into the game, but
Ethan Berry quickly answered in the sixth minute. The Panthers regained the lead in the 10th minute as George Bergin had his second of the game. The 2-1 margin held until halftime, but back-to-back early second-half tallies from Christian Torres had the Panthers in the driver's seat, 4-1.
Â
Four goals are a season-high for UNE, which saw eight corner kicks to the Panthers' two on Wednesday. Shots on goal were even, 9-9, and PSU had a slight 14-12 edge in total shots.
Â
Jacob Fullerton and
Jay Weingarten handled goalkeeping duties for UNE, splitting team nearly even, and Fullerton made three first-half saves.
Â
The Nor'easters return to Conference of New England action Saturday, Oct. 3, hosting Western New England University at 12 p.m.
