BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Western New England University scored twice in the opening 10 minutes before tacking on another first-half tally on its way to a 4-0 Conference of New England (CNE) men's soccer victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 3) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Goals by Saif Shaker (6th minute) and Ryan Sunshine (9th minute) gave the Golden Bears plenty of momentum early. Each goal was the first of the season for both players. Western New England would later push its advantage to 3-0 when Owen Cunneen tallied in the 29th minute.

Cole Casinghino closed out the scoring just 5:27 into the second half for the Golden Bears, who piled up a 28-5 advantage in shots while improving their record to 3-4-3 (2-1-1 CNE).

Brendan L'Italien picked up the shutout, needing just one save to earn the win. His counterparts for UNE, Jay Weingarten (first collegiate start) and Kaden Pare, combined to stop 10 shots.

The Nor'easters (3-6-3, 0-3-1) will look to halt a six-game winless streak Wednesday when they host Curry College in a conference match-up slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
