BIDDEFORD, Maine – Bowdoin College's Kayley Huleatt scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute of Tuesday night's non-conference matchup at Blue Storm Stadium, sending the Polar Bears home with a 2-1 victory over the University of New England women's soccer team.
The Nor'easters (4-2) struck first with a corner kick from
Jill Hodgson in the 16th minute, but Bowdoin responded in the 25th as Jackie Shores posted the equalizer following a free kick. Huleatt contributed the go-ahead score with just over 20 minutes remaining, and UNE was unable to convert any of its remaining opportunities to salvage a tie.
The Polar Bears (3-1) earned a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 13-5 edge in total shots. Corner kicks sided with UNE, 3-2, the first of which represented the Nor'easters' lone goal.
Gillian McGee sent a shot on goal in the 15th minute that was stopped by diving Bowdoin keeper Ilana Posner and deflected beyond the goal line, setting up a UNE corner. Hodgson sent a well-placed shot over the head of Posner for her team-best fifth goal of the season. (
