FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team is back in the win column after using a 65th-minute goal from
Corbin Schreindorfer to come away with a 1-0 non-conference victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday afternoon at Bob Leib Field.
Sophomore
Kaden Pare made his first career start for the Nor'easters (3-2-1) and made three saves in the shutout. Pare made his debut on Saturday against Johnson & Wales, recording one save in six minutes without allowing a goal.
Sunday marks the third shutout in UNE's first six games of the season, with the Nor'easters previously turning in back-to-back clean sheets against Rivier and Southern Maine.
Schreindorfer's game-winner was his third goal of the season, and
Matthew Dewhurst's assist represented his first of the campaign.
Total shots were even, 13-13, but UNE had a 7-3 edge over the Beavers (0-3-1) in shots on goal. Corners were a 4-4 stalemate.
"I'm happy we found a way to win, especially on the second leg of a back-to-back," head coach Peter Ostergaard said. "UMF is always hard to beat at home, so this was a positive result for us."
Another intrastate non-conference opponent awaits the Nor'easters on Tuesday, Sept. 15 as Thomas is slated to visit at 4 p.m.
