BIDDEFORD, Maine – Two second-half goals from Johnson & Wales University allowed the Wildcats to pull away for a 3-1 victory over the University of New England men's soccer team in Saturday's Conference of New England opener at Blue Storm Stadium.
After going to halftime tied 1-1, Chad Parente netted the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute, and Bruno Teixeira notched his second of the day in the 82nd minute to provide a two-goal cushion. William Slayton made several key saves for the Wildcats (2-0-2, 1-0), finishing with five.
Cole Osburn scored his second penalty kick goal in as many games, leveling the match at 1-1 in the 38th minute. Teixeira had previously opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
The Wildcats earned a 14-7 advantage in total shots, but shots on goal were even at 6-6. Corner kicks were also equal, 2-2.
The contest featured six total cards, including a red on UNE in the 84th minute that reduced the Nor'easters (2-2-1, 0-1) to 10 players while trailing by two goals.
Completing a weekend with back-to-back games, UNE visits UMaine Farmington on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
