BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's lacrosse team rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but it was the visiting Roger Williams University Hawks who came away victorious when Caleb McKeown notched the game-winner for an 8-7 Conference of New England decision on Senior Day Saturday afternoon (Apr. 18) at Blue Bolt Field.
An intercepted pass by Alex Daigneault in the midfield set up McKeown, who raced in from the right side and rifled a shot into the net with just over a minute remaining in the overtime period.
The Nor'easters had trailed 7-5 midway through the fourth quarter before
Stephen Fogarty (6:39 remaining)Â and
Shea Fogarty (3:29) scored back-to-back to tie the score 7-7 and necessitate extra time.Â
UNE had several defensive stops in overtime, including a big save by goalkeeper
Christian Berluti early in the period, but were never able to mount an attack and get a shot off.
Preston Briggs notched a game-high three goals to pace the Nor'easter offense.
Stephen Fogarty finished with two markers, while
Shea Fogarty and
David Wilcox wrapped up UNE's scoring list.
