UNE stifles Gordon, 15-5, to cap season

WENHAM, Mass. – An early Gordon goal was emphatically answered by 14 straight from the University of New England men's lacrosse team, which held the Fighting Scots scoreless from the 10:46 mark of the first quarter until 9:50 of the fourth, on its way to a convincing 15-5 Conference of New England triumph that capped the 2026 campaign on Wednesday evening at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

Eight different UNE players found the back of the net, and the Nor'easters earned 12 assists on their 15 goals. UNE (6-11, 3-6) scored three times on man-up opportunities (3-for-6), all while holding the Fighting Scots (1-12, 0-9) scoreless on each of their six chances, in addition to a man-down goal from the Nor'easters early in the third quarter.

Gordon stymied by Christian Berluti, who made 13 saves while allowing just five goals.

Kennedy Opie opened the scoring, handing Gordon a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the first quarter before Declan Mulkerin's tally three-and-a-half minutes later opened the floodgates for what turned out to be a 14-0 run by the visitors. The Scots did not put up another goal until the fourth quarter, and trailed 14-1 by that time.

Despite Gordon having the upperhand in faceoffs, UNE earned a 40-34 advantage in ground balls thanks to Berluti's 10. Dominic Matteodo scooped up six, along with a pair of caused turnovers. Chris Gottlieb was the cause of three Gordon giveaways.
