BEVERLY, Mass. -- Endicott College converted nine hits and a couple of walks into eight runs during the 5th and 6th innings to separate from the University of New England to a 9-1 result (6 innings) in a Conference of New England (CNE) softball game at the EC Softball Complex on Thursday (Apr. 16).
The Gulls (14-9, 8-2 CNE) had taken the initial contest of what was originally scheduled as a doubleheader back on April 1 by a 9-6 margin.
The Nor'easters (12-14, 6-6) put one run across in the top of the 1st after a walk by
Hannah Irons and an two-out double by
Delaney Whitten.
A double and wild pitch got EC's Abby McClaflin to third with two away in the 3rd before a Maddie Beeley single tied things up. It was still knotted at 1-1 heading to the last half of the 5th, when the Gulls connected for five singles, the last of which came from Ella Tower to plate a pair and make it 6-1.
Elyse Saccoccio and Kyla Story contributed extra-base hits in the 6th to help put Endicott over the top. Saccoccio joined McClaflin and Beeley with two hits in the match for the hosts, while Analise Grady struck out four in the circle.
Adrianna Carsetti,
Hannah Lappin, and
Emma Michaud accounted for UNE's other hits.
Lizzie Brytowski took the setback in 4.2 innings of work.
The Nor'easters are back in action on Sunday at Johnson & Wales University.
