BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Nationally-ranked Husson University saw a five-run cushion trimmed to two late in the nightcap but was able to finish off a doubleheader sweep of the University of New England, 9-0 (5 innings) and 8-4, in non-conference softball action at Nor'easter Diamond on Tuesday (Apr. 14).

The No.21 Eagles (21-3) received four hits apiece on the day from Camryn King, Sophia Lynch, and Lydia Rice to fuel the offense. Ana Lang worked seven total innings in the circle without allowing a hit and striking out 18, which included 13 during a five-inning no-hitter in the opener and a save later in the evening.

The Nor'easters (12-13) will get a pause after their fourth twinbill in five days and look ahead to Thursday's visit to Endicott College for one contest.

Husson turned three hits into two runs right off the top in GAME 2 (HUS 8-4), capped by a double from Rice. UNE's first hit of the afternoon led to getting one run back in the 2nd, as a right-center-gap double by Emma Koenig put two in scoring position for Tess Bolduc, who followed with an RBI-single -- only after fouling off seven consecutive pitches in the longest at-bat of the doubleheader (9).

Rice drove in another in the 3rd, though, lacing a triple to right, and then plated one more with a two-out single in the 4th to make it 6-1 in favor of the Eagles.

A heads-up play in 5th by Zofia Twarog at third base likely saved more damage, as a scorched lineout turned into an inning-ending double play. That energy spun into the home half of the frame, and Bolduc started it by smashed her second home run over the center field fence.

The visitors were retired in order for the first time all day in the 6th, and the Nor'easters got back to work chipping away at the deficit. Emma Michaud drew a leadoff walk to set the table for Adrianna Carsetti to blast one over the wall in left for her third of the year to slice things to 6-4.

That cued the end of the line for starter Sierra Yates and brought Lang back in to get the final six outs on 24 pitches. Husson also gained some insurance in the 7th on a two-run double by Jetta Shook.

Starter Lizzie Brytowski took the setback for UNE, which was entertaining a ranked opponent for the first time. The four runs by the offense were the second-most the Nor'easters had tallied in 14 all-time games versus ranked foes.

Lang averaged 3.8 pitches per batter in GAME 1 (HUS 9-0) on the way to improving her personal ledger to 11-2. At the conclusion of the day, she had lowered her season earned run average to 0.58.

The Eagles struck for all of their runs in the 1st (4) and 3rd (5). Morgan Tainter accounted for driving in three, including two on a two-out triple, with two more from Morgan Curtis and Allie Casavant.

King had three doubles at the top of the lineup and recorded her second to begin the 2nd, but even after a sacrifice, UNE navigated around it unscathed. The first batter in the 4th also reached third base with one out and couldn't advance further, and Curtis doubled to open the 5th, but similarly ended up stranded at third by the Nor'easter defense.

UNE's first batter in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings reached by way of two walks and a hit-by-pitch. One moved to second on a passed ball.
