UNE handles Curry in 13-7 CNE win

Statistics

MILTON, Mass. – The University of New England men's lacrosse team poured in five first-quarter goals to jump ahead early on its way to a 13-7 Conference of New England road victory over Curry College on Tuesday at Walter M. Katz Field.

Preston Briggs' game-high five points – three goals and two assists – paced the Nor'easters (5-10, 2-5), who never trailed in Tuesday's triumph. Stephen Fogarty also contributed three goals, including a man-down tally late in the first quarter following one of only two total penalties called in the game.

Ean LaRochelle was victorious in 10 of his 16 faceoffs and collected seven ground balls, matching Chris Gottlieb for the game high. Gottlieb was also responsible for a team-best five caused turnovers. Curry (3-11, 1-6), which suffered a scoreless drought from the 10:23 mark of the second quarter through 8:53 of the third, was led by two-goal performances from both Blake Rothstein and Nicholas Cole.

The Colonels quickly answered UNE's game-opening tally, but that was followed by a 4-0 Nor'easter run that vaulted the visitors to a 5-1 advantage. Curry did not come any closer than three goals for the remainder of the game, eventually trailing by as many as seven.

Among UNE's 13 goals were the first in the collegiate careers of Quin Gleason and Colin Moore.

Christian Berluti made 13 saves for the Nor'easters, as did Niko DeCola for the Colonels.

UNE returns home on Saturday, April 18 to host Roger Williams at noon.
