BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of Hartford took control in the first quarter of Saturday's Conference of New England men's lacrosse matchup on Blue Bolt Field, eventually running away with a 16-2 victory over the University of New England.
UNE (4-10, 1-5) scored the game's first goal less than a minute in, but Hartford's answer kicked off a stretch of 12 straight from the Hawks en route to a commanding 9-1 halftime lead that only expanded in the second half.
Hartford (8-4, 5-1), which featured 10 different scorers, was led by Michael Novotny, with two goals and a pair of assists. Four different Hawks scored twice, including Aidan Ezra and Colin Reilly, who both added two helpers. Shaun Wright recorded a game-high four assists.
UNE's two goals came from
Ean LaRochelle and
Owen Matatall.
Ian Reynolds was nearly perfect in faceoffs, losing just one of his 11 appearances. The Hawks were 17-for-21 as a team.
The Nor'easters struggled to put shots on goal, with Hartford's CJ Ledwick only needing to make three saves in over 50 minutes of action. Andrew Leibold did not face a shot on goal over the final 9:54 of Saturday's contest. Eli Allaire and
