BIDDEFORD, Maine – Wheaton College took the lead in the fourth quarter of a low-scoring game to escape with a 6-5 non-conference win over the University of New England on Thursday evening at Blue Bolt Field.

Two first-half goals by Shea Fogarty – and another early third-quarter tally from brother Stephen Fogarty – helped the Nor'easters (1-2) grab a 4-2 lead over the unbeaten Lyons (5-0). From that point on, Wheaton scored four straight, eventually jumping on top, 6-4. Preston Briggs' goal with 8:16 remaining in the fourth went down as the game's final tally. The Nor'easters had a look in the last few seconds, with a chance to force overtime, but Wheaton's Evan Borchert came up with the save.

Goalkeeper Eli Allaire racked up 21 saves for the Nor'easters, while Borchert was good for 15 on the opposite end. Theo Stamatel led the Lyons with three goals, two of which came in the momentum-swinging 4-0 second-half run. Shea Fogarty was the only multi-goal scorer from UNE.

Faceoffs were dominated by Chris Bednaruk, who went 14-for-15 and collected seven ground balls. Both sides were nearly even on their clearing attempts, with UNE going 19-for-24 and Wheaton 19-for-23. The Lyons also earned a 28-18 advantage in ground balls.

Thursday's game featured only two total penalties – one in each half that combined for just 1:30.

The Nor'easters are in action at home once again on Saturday, March 7, hosting Keene State at 12 p.m.
