CLERMONT, Fla. -- Two days after play was suspended due to inclement weather, the University of New England softball team scored six of the last eight runs to register a 6-3 victory against Hartwick College on Wednesday (Mar. 18) at The Spring Games.
The game was originally started on Monday about an hour away in Winter Haven and didn't make it to the midway point, with the Hawks leading, 1-0, as the Nor'easters batted in the bottom of the 3rd. Things resumed with two away and 2-2 count to
Elise Connor, with two runners aboard, and Connor quickly knotted the score with a single.
An RBI-single from
Emma Michaud plated
Hannah Lappin after a triple in the 4th for a 2-1 edge, but a walk and hit-by-pitch, both with the bases loaded, shifted Hartwick back in front (3-2) in the 5th.
Contrary to the first time the Hawks led, though, this one only lasted a few minutes, as rookie
Tess Bolduc launched a one-out home run over the fence in left. Then Michaud came through, once again, with a single to score Lappin for the ultimate advantage (4-3).
Two unearned runs in the 6th padded the UNE lead, despite 13 runners left on base, and that was enough
Kara MacDonald to work through the 7th to seal it. MacDonald struck out two of her three in the last frame of the complete-game effort.
Connor and Lappin joined Michaud with two hits in the contest. Michaud has been dialed in thus far in 2026, hitting safely in all six outings to and generating a .647 average.
Casey O'Connor and Madi Hoerman each had a couple of singles for the Hawks (1-5).
