Augsburg gets by UNE, 9-6

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Augsburg University (Minn.) overcame an early three-run deficit with seven unanswered to collect a 9-6 softball decision versus the University of New England on Wednesday (Mar. 18) at The Spring Games.

The Auggies (5-10) received a game-high three hits from Jayden Evenson, who was one of three to drive in a pair of runs. Kayla Shaffer and McKenna Haug also knocked in two, and that duo was joined by Jaime Olson and Megan Gissler with two hits apiece.

Hannah Irons, Emma Michaud, and Fiona Casey each had a couple of hits for the Nor'easters (1-3). Michaud and Casey both drove in two, while Irons scored twice.

A solo homer from Lola Pilon gave Augsburg the initial lead in the top of the 1st inning, but Michaud had plated two by the 2nd, and Casey added one for a 4-1 UNE edge.

Shaffer had a two-run hit in the 3rd to help the Auggies tie it, and then Gissler doubled for a second time and scored for the lead in the 4th (5-4). Evenson and Olson provided runs with hits in the 5th to stretch the margin to 8-4.

Elise Connor got one back for UNE in the bottom of the frame, and the Nor'easters loaded the bases in the 6th, but could only get one run from that situation.

Brooke Laier fanned six to notch the complete-game pitching win for Augsburg, while Kara MacDonald took the loss for UNE.
