FREDERICK, Md. – Two fourth-quarter goals by Hood College allowed the Blazers to escape victorious, 6-5, in Tuesday evening's low-scoring battle with the University of New England men's lacrosse team.
The Nor'easters (3-5) recovered from a 4-1 second-quarter deficit to tie the game, 4-4, late in the third quarter. Jt Harich put Hood back on top early in the fourth and Danny McElroy extended the lead with 1:10 to go, before
Stephen Fogarty scored his second of the night to return the deficit to one with under a minute remaining.
Goalkeeper Trent Leuba limited UNE's offense to the tune of 12 saves, while
Grant Isdale made 10 saves in his first action of the season for the Nor'easters.
Lucas Strand's clean faceoff victories were key for the Blazers (5-2), going 8-for-12 with a game-high eight ground balls. Anden Muhlbach came up with an important faceoff win in the last minute, denying UNE one final possession with a chance to tie the game.
Ean LaRochelle, another Nor'easter with multiple goals, put up the game's first less than five minutes into the opening quarter, and later buried the game-tying tally to make it 4-4 late in the third. McElroy represented the only multi-goal performance for Hood.
