WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The University of New England softball team rattled off six unanswered runs to secure the first win of 2026 with a 7-4 victory over SUNY Brockport at The Spring Games on Monday (Mar. 16).
The rally started in the top of the 4th inning when
Adrianna Carsetti doubled and later scored on an error. A leadoff double by
Hannah Lappin in the 5th positioned UNE to make it 4-3 on an RBI-single from
Emma Michaud, and, after a passed ball,
Zofia Twarog singled to plate Michaud and tie things at 4-4.
The Nor'easters (1-2) seized control in the 6th, as Carsetti began with a single. A fielder's choice put another runner aboard, and a wild pitch moved both into scoring range.
Emma Koenig stepped in and singled the go-ahead run across, and then, with two outs,
Hannah Irons worked an 11-pitch at-bat into an RBI-single to pad the cushion to 6-4.
Sam Kowalick, who had entered to run for Koenig and took third base on the hit by Irons, stole home to tack on one more for UNE.
Liv Arvidson took over in the circle during the 3rd stanza and navigated around three total base runners in the final four innings to notch the pitching decision for the Nor'easters. Michaud joined Carsetti with two hits, and
Fiona Casey matched Carsetti's two runs scored.
Tess Bolduc had the other of the nine hits -- a two-out double to drive in Casey in the 2nd and even the score at 1-1.
Caitlyn Dailey had two hits and two RBI for the Golden Eagles (0-2), who drew seven free passes in the contest. Starting pitcher Liana DeValder struck out nine in 5.2 innings of work, and was tagged for five earned runs.
