CLERMONT, Fla. -- Allison Issacs put a one-out single into left field to drive in Bella DeLorenzo in the bottom of the 7th inning to push Plattsburgh State (SUNY) past the University of New England, 2-1, as both softball teams began play at The Spring Games on Sunday (Mar. 15).
DeLorenzo got the last at-bat going for the Cardinals (1-2) with a single, before Maya Weinerman delivered a pinch-hit double to set the stage for the walk-off hit. In the 6th, a lead-off double from Jaylyn Linderman and one-out single by Meghan Stork tied things up for Plattsburgh.
The matchup was the first meeting between the programs since squaring off in the opening game of the 2012 NCAA Championship at the Amherst Regional.
The Nor'easters (0-1) were on the scoreboard first in the top of the 3rd.
Hannah Lappin doubled to start the frame,
Hannah Irons managed to reach with a bunt single, and
Emma Michaud dropped a sacrifice bunt to allow Lappin to race the final 60 feet for the score.
Morgan Ormerod fanned eight in the circle for the Cardinals, while
Kara MacDonald struck out three in the setback for UNE.
Michaud and
Adrianna Carsetti accounted for UNE's other two hits.
