BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's basketball team finished Wednesday night's game on a 12-1 run to secure a 68-59 Conference of New England victory over Curry College on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
UNE (9-9, 5-4) trailed by 10 early in the second half and traded blows with Colonels (5-14, 1-9) down the stretch before taking control in the final four minutes. Tied at 58-58 with 3:14 remaining,
Adam Lux drained a 3-pointer to put the Nor'easters on top for good, with Curry being held without a field goal from that point forward.
The Nor'easters were balanced with four different scorers in double figures, led by
Julius Silva, who knocked down five free throws during the final six seconds of the game to help close out the win. Lux and
Jayden Thornton scored 11 apiece, and
Adrian Torres rounded out the quartet with 10, along with his five assists.
Jeremiah Predin scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Colonels, who also received a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double from Jake Bernardo. Manny Hidalgo collected a game-best 12 boards, but despite two players entering double figures on the glass, Curry only came away with a one-rebound advantage (43-42). Cold 3-point shooting proved troublesome for the Colonels, who were 3-for-17 on the evening, including 1-for-9 in the second half. UNE knocked down six triples (6-for-22), with four of those coming in the first half.
A 10-0 run was UNE's much-needed response to the Colonels grabbing the game's only double-digit lead during the opening two minutes of the second half. That stretch was capped with a bucket from
Kha Cao Ra James, tying the game at 41-41 with 15 minutes remaining. From that point on, neither side led by more than one possession until under the 2:00 mark when Lux – shortly after his go-ahead triple – hit two free throws to give the Nor'easters a 63-58 lead. Isaiah Andino's bucket at the 5:43 mark wound up being the last field goal of the evening for the Colonels, who succumbed to the Nor'easters in a game that featured 15 ties and 11 lead changes.
UNE has now won three straight over Curry, having swept the season series during the 2024-25 campaign.
The Nor'easters are in action at home once again on Saturday, Jan. 31, hosting Roger Williams University at 3 p.m.
