DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College shot better than 70 percent from the floor in the first half on its way to a 112-83 win over the University of New England during Saturday's Conference of New England men's basketball matchup inside the Nichols Athletic Center.
Dominic Mello was 10-for-14 from the field to finish with a game-best 24 points for the Bison (11-8, 6-4). Olivier St. Louis turned in an efficient 19, going 8-for-12.
Adrian Torres led the Nor'easters (7-9, 3-4) with 21 points, while
Jayden Thornton and
Julius Silva put up 12 apiece.
UNE had a nice start from the perimeter, going 7-for-16 from deep over the opening half, but that was overshadowed by Nichols' blistering 22-for-30 showing from the field, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range. That hot start had the Nor'easters facing a 56-42 halftime deficit, and the Bison barely cooled down in the second half, eventually finishing the game shooting 64 percent from the floor (41-of-64).
Nichols led by as many as 18 late in the first half before UNE cut the lead to 59-52 early in the second. A 10-2 Bison run followed that Nor'easter resurgence and returned the lead to double digits, where it remained for the remainder of the afternoon.
Nichols finished the game with a 42-31 edge in the rebounding column, but UNE was able to claim the advantage in turnovers, 19-15.
The Nor'easters are set to host Curry on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
