BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's basketball team put away Wentworth Institute of Technology in the second overtime of Tuesday night's Conference of New England marathon on Coach Beaudry's Court, eventually pulling out a 108-103 victory.

Clinging to a 104-101 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in the second extra session, Adam Lux converted an and-1 to hand the Nor'easters (8-8, 4-3) a two-possession lead, which proved insurmountable for the Leopards (1-15, 1-8). Lux finished the game with 25 points, matching Adrian Torres for the game-high. Jayden Thornton, who led UNE with eight points between the two overtime periods, followed with 23.

The victory came with the Nor'easters sporting special Westbrook College throwback uniforms, honoring the program's historical roots, along with former head coach Jim Graffam.

Wentworth trailed by 14 with under seven minutes remaining in the second half, but erased that deficit and forced overtime when Jayden Williams drew a foul with a fraction of a second left and knocked down a pair of three throws, leveling the score at 87-87. The Leopards needed some last-possession magic in the first overtime as well, when Colin Mannke drilled a 3-pointer to draw Wentworth even, 96-96.

Williams and Dylan Olson scored 18 apiece to pace a balanced Wentworth offense. Mannke scored 16 and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. The Leopards out-rebounded UNE, 47-39, but committed seven more turnovers. UNE limited its giveaways to 12, while Wentworth racked up 19.

The Nor'easters were better than 50 percent from the floor (40-for-75) and shot exactly 50 percent from beyond the arc (11-for-22). Lux was a big part of the perimeter success, having hit 5-of-7. Gabe Galarraga, who scored an efficient 18 points, was 6-for-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from deep. Tuesday was the fourth time this season UNE has shot 50 percent or better from the floor.

A 15-2 early second-half run spelled trouble for the Leopards, who had a 44-42 halftime lead, but trailed by double digits for much of the second half. Wentworth chipped away until UNE saw its lead vanish at the 2:54 mark when Russell Dolabany put together a four-point play, tying the game at 82-82. The Nor'easters were back on top by five a minute later with the help of a Galarraga triple, but Olson's trey, followed by Williams' clutch free throws, brought on the first overtime.

UNE led by four with under 30 seconds remaining in the opening bonus session, but Mannke played hero with a pair of 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds to bring on another five minutes. UNE never trailed in the second overtime, and looked to Lux for a couple of crucial buckets to close out a rollercoaster triumph.

Tuesday was UNE's first double-overtime game since Nov. 19, 2022, when the Nor'easters overcame a 27-point second-half deficit for a 95-93 home win over Maine Maritime. Tonight's win was also UNE's first over Wentworth since the 2021-22 season.

Now with back-to-back CNE wins to their credit, the Nor'easters are lined up to visit Nichols on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.
