Nor'easters earn hard-fought sweep of Keene State

Statistics

LEWISTON, Maine -- Ellijah Hanley led all players with 14 kills to help the University of New England take down Keene State College 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) in the day's second match of three in an event hosted by Bates College.

Despite sweeping the tilt, the Nor'easters had just seven more points than the Owls all afternoon.

UNE trailed by as many as seven (12-19) in the opening set before storming back for a 25-23 decision. The Nor'easters evened the frame at 23-23 before kills by Hanley and Kailyn Reilly closed out the set.

The second was a different story, however, as the Owls fell behind 19-13 before closing strong but falling just short.

The Nor'easters saw themselves behind 14-18 in the third frame before grabbing six of the next seven points to take the lead for good (20-19). Kendall Gallaugher had a pair of kills late to help UNE close out the match.

Hanley added 12 digs to her match-best 14 kills to post a double-double. Hannah Nowell contributed 10 kills and three total blocks for UNE, while Hayley Shult handed out 29 assists and Kelsey Bradshaw led all players with 13 digs.

Katie Taylor and Gigi Stake each were credited with eight assists to pace the Keene State (2-4) attack.
