Nor'easters blank Panthers, 2-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team picked up its first win on Tuesday evening, blanking Plymouth State University in a nonconference tilt by a final score of 2-0 at Hazard Field.
 
Corbin Schreindorfer's header in the 35th minute gave the Nor'easters (1-5-3) a first-half lead (Watch) before Nick Reffel provided an insurance tally in the 78th (Watch). Sean MacDonald made two saves to notch his fourth shutout of the season, as well as his third in the last four games.
 
Kole Matta made four saves for the Panthers (3-6-1), who bested 22-12 in total shots and 6-2 in shots on goal. The Nor'easters also claimed a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
Ethan Berry picked up assists on both UNE tallies – the first on a free kick and the second on a throw-in.
 
The Nor'easters were inches from finding additional scores in the second half, with one shot hitting the post and another barely stopped by Matta in the 89th minute.
 
Nonconference action continues for UNE on Saturday, Oct. 4 with a trip to Thomas College for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
