BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Emma Davis, LJ Grant, and Brady Moseley combined for 27 of the team's 49 kills as No.19 Colby College defeated the University of New England, 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-18), on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday night (Sep. 3).

Davis had a match-best 10 kills and a .529 hitting percentage for the nationally-ranked Mules (2-0), while Grant and Moseley accounted for nine and eight winners, respectively. Gabby Grujic put up 27 assists and added nine digs, and Reese Loyd collected 17 digs.

The Nor'easters (1-3) received eight kills off the hand of Ellijah Hanley, and seven more from Hannah Nowell, who also picked up eight digs and factored in three blocks. Kailyn Reilly had a part in each of the squad's five blocks, and Hayley Shult contributed 21 assists to the attack while posting 10 digs to be the only player with a double-double. Kelsey Bradshaw had a team-high 11 digs.

Trailing by one set, UNE raced out to a 7-3 lead in the 2nd frame, and three more kills from Nowell had the spread at 10-6. But Colby rattled off the next eight points to flip the advantage. A kill by Hanley cut the deficit down to 17-15 [Watch], and a big hit from Nowell tried to keep the hosts alive late [Watch 23-18], but cushion was just too large for the Mules.

The visitors notched the first five points of the 3rd and led by as many as seven before the Nor'easters tried to inch back into the stanza. Reilly and Nowell teamed up for a block to close the gap to 17-13 [Watch], however, that was as close as UNE would get.

UNE heads to Bates College on Saturday for a tri-match that includes Keene State College.
