BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England posted a season-best .314 hitting percentage and dialed up 16 service aces to roll over Salem State University by a 3-0 margin (25-7, 25-11, 25-19) in women's volleyball action on Tuesday night (Sep. 16) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Ellijah Hanley topped the Nor'easters (5-5) with 19 points, which included a match-high 15 kills with a .314 attack efficiency.
Hannah Nowell hit .348 and ended with 12Â kills, while registering the only double-double of the evening by collecting 12 digs.
Kendall Gallaugher and
Chloe Miracle combined to knock down seven winners without any errors, and
Hayley Shult supplied 20 assists.Â
Kelsey Bradshaw went for 14 digs, and shared the lead of five aces with
Lylah Shumway. The opponents could only manage 18 total kills and four aces against the UNE defense.
For the Vikings (3-6), Presley Shairs had six kills and Celia Carbone tallied 15 assists. Kailey Roche picked up 11 digs.
The Nor'easters dominated the opening frame by displaying .464 accuracy on the attack. After Nowell's five kills, Hanley and Gallaugher paired for seven more in 16 errorless swings. UNE also claimed the second point of the match, during which the ball crossed the net 18 times and lasted 65 seconds before a Gallaugher smash.
UNE never trailed in the 2nd session, but faced deficits of 15-12 and 18-15 in the 3rd. The hosts pulled themselves back in front with a 10-1 closing stretch, though, featuring three kills from Nowell and a couple of aces by Bradshaw. Nowell connected at a .500 clip in the set (6 kills).
The Nor'easters take to the road for a date with Babson College on Saturday.
