BIDDEFORD, Maine – Worcester State scored the game's opening goal and put up an insurance tally in the 86th minute to leave Hazard Field with a 2-1 victory over the University of New England women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon.

Kylie Curtin scored the Nor'easters' (1-1) lone goal, making the home opener a one-score game with less than four minutes remaining, but UNE was unable to net an equalizer.

Worcester State (1-0) goalkeeper Ella Gumienny made nine saves, while
Haley Coombs registered seven for UNE, including a key stop in the final minute that kept UNE's hopes alive.

The Lancers' first goal came in the 22nd minute after a corner kick when, in a scramble at the net, Erin Condon tapped one past Coombs from just a few yards out. Ava Lemanski posted Worcester State's second goal in game's final minutes, and that was answered less than 40 seconds later when Curtin drilled home her second goal of the season from the top of the box during the 87th minute.

UNE held an 18-10 advantage in total shots, but the Lancers benefited from one additional corner opportunity, leading that category 6-5.

The Nor'easters are lined up to visit Westfield State on Wednesday, Sept. 3 for a 4 p.m. kickoff before returning to Hazard Field on Saturday, Sept. 6 to host Southern Maine at 2 p.m.
