Monks get by UNE, 3-1

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Saint Joseph's College overcame a slow start to register a 3-1 women's volleyball result (17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20) versus the University of New England to conclude a full day of Maine Coast Classic action on Saturday (Aug. 30) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (1-2) led for the entirety of the opening frame while hitting .250 and limiting the Monks (2-1) to just .054 attack efficiency. Things flipped in the 2nd, though, as SJC leveled the match, and the visitors plotted their way through the 3rd and 4th to earn the win.

Greta Mackintosh had 11 kills and 12 digs to pace St. Joe's, and Nadia Sixto added 10 winners. Addison Thomas contributed eight more kills and posted a .389 hitting rate, and Larisa Comolli factored in five of the team's six blocks. Defensively, Jessica Christman, Sabrina Arcilla, and Livy McDonough went for 14, 11, and 10 digs, respectively; McDonough and Arcilla also combined for nine of the squad's 17 service aces.

On the UNE side, Chloe Miracle led all players with 17 kills and notched a double-double with 10 digs. Kailyn Reilly and Ellijah Hanley each supplied nine kills with the help of 41 assists by Hayley Shult, while Hannah Nowell put seven kills and had a hand in the team's three rejections. Kelsey Bradshaw picked up 18 digs on the back end, and Lylah Shumway saved 14 more; Nowell and Shult made it five in double digits for digs by matching the 10 from Miracle.

The Nor'easters stay at home and will entertain national No.17 Colby College on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
