BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team battled Maine Maritime to a scoreless draw in Friday night's rain-soaked season opener, which included more than 90 minutes of weather delays, at Blue Storm Stadium.

UNE claimed a 12-5 advantage in shots, along with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Three of the Nor'easters' shots on goal came in the second half, including one by Nick Reffel in the 58th minute that nearly served as the match's lone tally.

The Mariners had two corner kicks in the game's final 15 minutes, but were unable to a register a shot on goal for the duration of the second half. Sean MacDonald's performance on Friday night was good for his first career shutout.

The Nor'easters are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2, traveling to Bowdoin for a 7 p.m. kickoff before returning home to square off with Southern Maine, their third of four straight intrastate foes to start the season.
