UNE downs SJC in season opener, 2-0

STANDISH, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team rolled to a 2-0 road victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Friday, chalking up a season-opening triumph over the Monks for a fifth straight campaign.

Kylie Curtin provided all the offense the Nor'easters would need with her eighth-minute tally, and Ashley Clark's goal in the 35th minute doubled the UNE advantage. Haley Coombs was called upon to make just three saves while notching her first career shutout. Two of those came in the game's first 21 minutes, and the last preserved the clean sheet in the 89th minute.

The Nor'easters claimed an 18-4 advantage in total shots, as well as a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at 3-3, though SJC saw back-to-back opportunities that came up empty in the opening two minutes of the second half.

UNE logged three shots on goal in a two-minute span, all of which were stopped by SJC goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette, beginning in the 79th minute.

The Nor'easters are in action at Barbara J. Hazard Field for the first time in 2025, hosting Worcester State on Sunday, August 31 for the home opener at noon.
