BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Leading 7-6 after three quarters, the University of New England outscored visiting Nichols College 6-2 in the final frame to claim a 13-8 win in Conference of New England men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon (Apr. 5) on Senior Day at Blue Bolt Field.

The victory halted a UNE three-game losing skid, while getting the Nor'easters into the win column in CNE play (1-3). UNE (6-7 overall) improved its home ledger to 3-1 in 2025.

In a contest that was tight the majority of the afternoon, the Nor'easters grabbed the lead for good at 7-6 when Cole Irving notched a man-up goal with 1:12 remaining in the third quarter [Watch].

The fourth frame was all UNE, as the Nor'easters reeled off four consecutive tallies to take control. Kyle Dunn started the surge with a goal at the 12:19 mark [Watch], which was followed by a marker from Brennan Chane at 10:57 [Watch].

Shea Fogarty [Watch] and Chane [Watch] went back-to-back to push the UNE advantage to five (11-6) with 5:05 on the clock before goals by Dylan DeRubeis and CJ Cadigan got Nichols back within three at 11-8. Owen Matatall and Chane scored in the final minute for UNE to dash any hope of a Nichols miracle comeback.

Chane finished with a career-best four goals to lead all players. Dunn and Fogarty had three apiece for the Nor'easters, who registered their highest-scoring output in their last eight contests.

Evan Hazard earned the win between the pipes, denying a total of 10 Nichols' shots on goal. Fogarty, Chris Gottlieb and David Wilcox each scooped up four ground balls, with Gottlieb adding a team-high three caused turnovers.

DeRubeis paced the Bison with three scores and six ground balls. Cooper Melvin was strong in the defensive end, totaling four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Nor'easters are off until next Saturday (Apr. 12) when they will look to make it consecutive conference wins in a 3 p.m. tilt at the University of Hartford.
