BOSTON – Wentworth took control after a low-scoring start to cruise past the University of New England, 15-1, in Tuesday afternoon's Conference of New England men's lacrosse matchup at Sweeney Field.
The Leopards (9-2, 2-0 CNE), who received four goals from two different players, led just 1-0 after the first quarter before netting six goals in the second. The Nor'easters (5-7, 0-3 CNE) faced a 13-0 deficit before
Hogan Corona netted their first and only tally midway through the fourth quarter.
Brendan Kroll and Erik Vogt were the catalysts for Wentworth, scoring two goals apiece. Four other Leopards found the back of the net, including Kobi Buffa, who added three. Tom Gardner made seven saves without allowing a goal in over 50 minutes in the cage, while Connor Charron collected a game-high seven groundballs and Kyle Leger recorded five caused turnovers.
Evan Hazard made 19 saves for UNE and matched
Shea Fogarty for the team lead with four groundballs.
The Nor'easters return to Blue Bolt Field on Saturday, April 5 to host Nichols at 1 p.m.
