Statistics

BOSTON – UMass Boston took control early and held on down the stretch to pick up an 11-6 win over the University of New England men's lacrosse team in Saturday afternoon's non-conference meeting at James Cotter Field.

Three of Jack Schartner's game-high four goals came in UMass Boston's early 5-0 run. Finn McCoy's tally with 5:10 remaining in the second quarter put UNE (4-2) on the board and started a 4-1 run Nor'easter run that cut the Beacons' lead to 6-4. UMass Boston (3-0) answered with four straight third-quarter goals to take an insurmountable 10-4 advantage.

The Beacon attack, in addition to Schartner, was led by multi-goal performances by Seth Libby (3) and Timothy Sullivan (2). Patrick Carey collected a game-high six groundballs to help UMass Boston claim a 47-35 advantage in the category.

Evan Hazard racked up a career-high 24 saves for UNE, while Stephen Fogarty was the lone Nor'easter with multiple goals, netting two on the day. Fogarty scored the last of three straight UNE goals that helped the visitors partially recover from their early 5-0 deficit, as well as the Nor'easters' last goal of the game that trimmed UMass Boston's lead to 10-6 early in the fourth quarter.

The game's final goal, scored by Sullivan with 7:51 remaining in the fourth, was lone man-up tally of the afternoon.

UNE's five-game road stretch continues on Wednesday, March 12 with a visit to Rivier at 5 p.m.
