NASHUA, N.H. – Rivier turned in a dominant second half on Wednesday evening, picking up a 16-5 non-conference victory over the University of New England men's lacrosse team at Merrill Field.
The Raiders (3-1) clung to a 6-3 lead at halftime before outscoring the Nor'easters (4-3) 10-2 in the second half, including a 7-1 margin in the third quarter. Three different Rivier players contributed three-goal performances.
Shea Fogarty scored UNE's first goal and later assisted a man-up tally by
Preston Briggs to record his 100th career point, becoming the 15th player in program history to reach the milestone.
Michael Zapatka, Michael Ference and Connor Eck were the Raiders' catalysts, each coming up with three goals and two assists. Owen McDuffie was 13-for-15 in faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine groundballs, along with an assist.
Briggs, the lone Nor'easter with multiple goals, had both scores come consecutively in man-up fashion in the second quarter to cut Rivier's lead to 5-3.
Finn McCoy helped UNE stay in it midway through the third quarter, but already with an 8-4 edge, the Raiders answered emphatically with an 8-0 run to put the game away.
UNE is set to head south to visit Goucher (Md.) on Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.
