BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's lacrosse team turned in a dominant performance on Tuesday evening at Blue Bolt Field, leading 10-0 at halftime and eventually closing out a lopsided 16-2 victory over Southern Maine.

Preston Briggs scored a game-high five goals for the Nor'easters (4-1), including two in the game's first five minutes. The Huskies (1-3) trailed 12-0 before finding their first goal late in the third quarter. Evan Hazard made nine saves and allowed just one goal, helping UNE hold its opponent to two scores or fewer for the first time since March 15, 2022 (8-2 victory over New England College).

Hazard even netted a goal of his own to put UNE on top, 12-0, and his tally was the first by a Nor'easter goalie since 2016 (John Dusel against Colby). Hazard now has a goal and an assist on the season.

UNE's high-powered offensive attack also received four goals from Finn McCoy and two from Hogan Corona. Kyle Dunn, another goal scorer, led the assist column with three, while Shea Fogarty and Max Barrett had two helpers apiece. Briggs, in addition to game-best offensive output, led both squads with seven groundballs. Ben Gowell was 10-for-15 in faceoffs and collected six groundballs.

The Nor'easters were 1-for-2 on their extra-man opportunities, cashing in on Southern Maine's first penalty with Dunn's goal, the game's lone man-up tally. The Huskies were scoreless in five opportunities.

The first-half avalanche of 10 Nor'easter goals included eight in the first quarter, four of which were scored by Briggs. Halftime was bookended by Corona's two goals, with one coming late in the second quarter and another early in the third, to give UNE an 11-0 advantage. Owen Gaulrapp found the back of the net to put the Huskies on the board with 5:38 left in the third and the Nor'easters answered by tacking on three more before Patrick O'Driscoll scored the final Husky goal late in the fourth. Owen Matatall capped off the scoring less than a minute later.

The Nor'easters are lined up to visit UMass Boston for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, March 8.
