CLERMONT, Fla. --
Kara MacDonald struck out four and
Hannah Irons came through with a go-ahead RBI-double in the 5th inning as the University of New England softball team secured a 2-1 victory over Juniata College on Wednesday (Mar. 19) at The Spring Games.
From the circle, MacDonald scattered three hits and four walks in the complete game win for the Nor'easters (3-2), allowing just the one run in the bottom of the 1st.
Hits by
Jadyn Kimball and
Delaney Whitten positioned UNE to get even on the scoreboard in the 4th, and a sac fly from
Lizzie Brytowski did just that. In the next frame, a single and steal by
Nola Boutaugh set the stage for Irons with two outs, and the sophomore drove in her team-leading seventh run to shift the Nor'easters in front.
After a pair of walks with two away in the last chance for the Eagles (4-10), MacDonald closed the door by striking out the final batter.
Gracie Ruch took the pitching loss for Juniata. Eva Johnson provided the RBI-single for the team's lone run.
