CLERMONT, Fla. -- Following a four-run top of the 2nd inning by the University of New England softball team, Simpson College responded with five in the bottom of the frame and finished off a 6-4 result on Monday (Mar. 17) at The Spring Games.
The Nor'easters (2-2) received a pair of two-run singles to plate their total, off the bats of
Hannah Irons and
Delaney Whitten.
Fiona Casey added a hit in the session.
But the Storm (6-1) answered with a three-run double Kate Kriegel, and then a two-out home run by Megan Heidelbauer that scored Ashlyn Steen, who had one of her three stolen bases in the inning.
Doubles by Mackenzie James and Gracie Bruening in the 5th padded the Simpson cushion. Heidelbauer and Bruening accounted for four of the team's seven hits, and Sierra Franklin worked the final four innings in the circle and faced 14 batters to get the win.
Whitten topped UNE with two hits.
Mo Kinsella took the pitching setback, before
Kara MacDonald fanned four over the last 4.1 innings.
