BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's basketball team matched its season high in scoring during Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England matchup with Gordon on Coach Beaudry's Court, cruising to an 87-60 Senior Day victory over the Fighting Scots.

UNE (11-10, 8-6 CNE) trailed, 25-24, midway through the second quarter before rattling off a 19-0 run to take a commanding 43-25 lead into the break. Gordon (7-14, 4-10 CNE) was unable to come within single digits in the second half.

The Nor'easters knocked down a season-high nine 3-pointers, including a 5-for-7 showing from the perimeter during a UNE-dominated second quarter. Four different players hit multiple triples, including Ella Karavanic, who scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds to put together her first collegiate double-double. Faye Veilleux matched Karavanic with 14 points, and Sydney Jenisch and Kaia Anderson rounded out UNE's double-digit scorers, both finishing with 12.

Naomi Nicholson paced the Fighting Scots with a game-high 20 points, having knocked down three treys along with a 7-for-8 showing at the free throw line. Gordon shot barely over 30 percent from the field (21-for-68) while UNE was slightly better than 45 percent (32-of-71). Both sides were an identical 14-for-23 at the charity stripe.

UNE claimed a 53-36 advantage on the glass, marking a new season high in rebounding for the Nor'easters. Karavanic led that effort, as well as Anderson, who grabbed a career-high nine boards.

Jenisch nailed a 3-pointer at the 4:52 mark of the second quarter to help UNE reclaim the lead, 27-25, and jumpstart a dominant finish to the second half that included two triples from Veilleux, one from Karavanic, and finally another from Hannah Cook in the final seconds to send the red-hot Nor'easters into the break.

Facing a 45-25 deficit early in the third quarter, Gordon put together an 11-3 run to come within 12, but UNE regained its momentum, mainly at the free throw line, to take a 60-40 lead into the fourth quarter. The Nor'easters' margin of victory, 27, matched the game's largest lead.

Prior to Saturday's contest, the program honored seniors Mia Arcario and Ashley Schmitt. Both started and appeared in the scoring column, with Schmitt delivering seven points and Arcario contributing four.

Now with a season sweep of Gordon in the books, UNE looks to add another sweep to its 2024-25 resume, visiting Wentworth on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
