BIDDEFORD, Maine – A balanced Endicott attack, powered by Marcus Montagnino's game-high 20 points, helped the Gulls come away with a 92-62 victory over the University of New England men's basketball team in Wednesday night's Conference of New England meeting on Coach Beaudry's Court.
The Gulls shot nearly 50 percent from long range (15-for-31), including an 8-for-13 showing in the first half, to build a 47-33 halftime lead, and maintained hot shooting down the stretch to finish off their seventh straight victory.
Jack Pyzynski recorded his third double-double of the season for UNE, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds – both team-highs. Montagnino notched the game's only other double-double, pairing 11 boards with his 20 points. Drew Brown was 5-for-5 from deep to tally 15 points, all from beyond the arc.
The Nor'easters were within five points of the Gulls, 38-33, with just over two minutes remaining in the first half, but a 9-0 Endicott run had the hosts facing a sizable deficit at the break. The Gulls, who sank a 3-pointer on their first possession of the second half to go up by 17 (50-33) kept UNE from coming within single digits for the remainder of the contest.
The Nor'easters are in action at home once again to host Gordon, which they defeated in overtime on the road Dec. 10, on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
