PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After a back-and-forth first half, Plymouth State rattled off a 6-0 run that spanned the end of the second quarter through the beginning of the fourth to come away with an 11-7 victory over the University of New England men's lacrosse team in Friday afternoon's non-conference meeting on Panther Field.
The Nor'easters (3-1) trailed 4-3 in the final minutes of the second quarter before Plymouth State's Aiden O'Loughlin scored one of his game-high four goals to kickstart a dominant Panther stretch, which would see the visitors get held scoreless in the third quarter. UNE faced a 10-3 deficit early in the fourth, which proved too much to overcome despite the Nor'easters scoring four goals over the game's final 13 minutes.
In addition to O'Loughin's four goals, Plymouth State (1-1) received two from both Ryan Jones and Crosby Fay. Aiden Renner collected a game-high eight groundballs, along with a goal and an assist, and Ryan Collins, another Panther goal scorer, came up with four caused turnovers and four groundballs. Ethan Schena made seven saves between the pipes.
Shea Fogarty was the lone Nor'easter with multiple goals (2), including an early fourth-quarter tally – his team-leading 10th of the season - that served as UNE's first since the 2:53 mark of the second quarter.
Ben Gowell was 11-for-19 in faceoffs, and
Evan Hazard made 13 saves, and registered an assist on
Chris Gottlieb's second-quarter goal.
Friday's game marked the end of a three-game road stretch for the Nor'easters, who return to Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday, March 4 to host Southern Maine at 4 p.m.
