CASTINE, Maine -- The University of New England men's lacrosse team scored the first three goals of the 4th quarter to break away from a tied game and escaped with an 11-10 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Ritchie Field.

Kyle Dunn, Shea Fogarty, and Finn McCoy found the back of the cage during the initial portion of the final period to go up 10-7 with under nine minutes to go. A pair of man-up tallies by the Mariners closed the gap to one, but McCoy deposited another with 4:18 on the clock for a key insurance goal (11-9).

MMA got one back at the 3:24 mark, but the hosts were unable to attempt a shot in the last two-plus minutes to have a chance at leveling things.

The Nor'easters are 3-0 in a season for the first time since 2020, and the fourth time in program history.

Fogarty and McCoy paced UNE with three goals apiece, and Dunn added two. In addition to a game-high three assists, Stephen Fogarty contributed one goal, as did Joe O'Keefe and Preston Briggs. Evan Hazard totaled 17 saves for the second straight outing on the other end of the field.

For Maine Maritime (0-1), Ryan Dunstan notched three goals and Tobey Lappin supplied two. Bryce Crowell went 16-for-23 in faceoffs, and Andrew Noyes collected 16 stops between the pipes.

The Nor'easters had led three times in the opening 17 minutes of action, only to see four in-a-row by the Mariners in the 2nd flip the edge to 6-3. Sh.Fogarty, though, converted with six ticks left before halftime to halt the run. Then, early in the 3rd, McCoy, Sh.Fogarty, and Dunn all scored in a three-minute span to retake the advantage (7-6).

UNE is off for a week and will head to Plymouth State University next Saturday.
