BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kaia Anderson scored 11 of her career-high 15 points after halftime to help lead the University of New England women's basketball team to a 63-46 Conference of New England (CNE) win over visiting Curry College Wednesday evening (Feb. 19) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters, who led from the outset and never trailed, improved their record to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in conference play. UNE, which will be seeded fourth for the upcoming CNE Tournament, faces Roger Williams University on the road in Saturday's regular-season finale.

Coming off the bench, Anderson was 6 of 10 from the floor and finished with eight rebounds (5 offensive) and three steals to pace the Nor'easters. Ella Karavanic tallied all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter to help dash any hope of a Curry rally. Faye Veilleux finished with 10 points, including her 1,000th career in a UNE uniform to become the 28th player in the history of the program to achieve the milestone. A transfer from UMass Dartmouth, Veilleux eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career in the Nor'easters' previous meeting with Curry back on Jan. 15. Grace Boucher dished out five assists to lead UNE, which totaled 18 assists on 26 field goals.

For the Colonels (7-17, 4-13 CNE) Grace Fleuriel tossed in 14 points, while Sophie Hilbrunner added 13.

Veilleux scored five points in the early going to help UNE build a 12-4 advantage seven minutes into the contest. Hilbrunner countered with five of her own to help Curry close to within five (16-11) after one quarter.

The Nor'easters opened up the second quarter with a 13-4 spurt to push their lead to 14 (29-15) before the Colonels whittled away at their deficit by scoring the final seven points of the frame to slice the Nor'easters lead in half (29-22) heading into the locker room.

Curry got as close as five (33-28) early in the third quarter, but UNE would score seven consecutive points to seize momentum for good.

The Nor'easters shot a solid 45.6 percent (26 of 57) for the contest and out-rebounded the visitors, 36-23. UNE scored more than half (36) of its points in the paint while racking up 30 points from its reserves.
