BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's lacrosse team outscored Husson University by 10 combined goals in the 2nd and 4th quarters on the way to a 16-5 men's lacrosse victory in the mutual season-opener at Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15).
Kyle Dunn and
Finn McCoy paced the Nor'easters (1-0) with four goals apiece; Dunn accounted for three of the team's five tallies in the 2nd period, and assisted on another, as the hosts turned a 2-2 contest into a 7-3 halftime lead. McCoy had a hand in three of the seven scores in the 4th, as UNE expanded upon a 9-4 cushion through 45 minutes.
Shea Fogarty,
Ean LaRochelle, and
Owen Matatall each contributed two goals and an assist for the winners, while
Hogan Corona and
Brennan Chane netted the remaining two. On the other end,
Evan Hazard totaled eight saves.
In between, the Nor'easters received 14-of-19 faceoffs and six ground balls out of
Ben Gowell.
James Bridges had a team-best seven ground balls, and
Sean Moore amassed a game-high six caused turnovers.
For the Eagles (0-1), Kiernan Field had four goals. Owen Giorgio collected a match-high nine ground balls. AJ Torres and Odin Burk split time in front of the cage and recorded a total of 10 stops.
UNE is slated to entertain Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
